7 Sep 2023 - 11 Sep 2023
Last portion of the trip was two day trail Fimmvörþuháls heading between two glaciers. Initial ascent was quite easy, moving from Volcano Huts valley to the glacier field on the top. On open fields it started raining again and it kept on lava fields, ice and snow fields, and everywhere else. Fortunately near highest point of the trail there was a chalet. The shelter, some dry place without wind, and a bit of beer helped a lot. The other day was descent to Skogar winding around a river with many waterfalls. It kept raining all day, but vision of close end moved us through all day with a good mood. After tasting great fish&chips, enjoying thermal swimming pool at Hvolsvöllur, and day in Reykjavik we successfully finished this trip.

The route continues over flat black volcanic fields. The landscape is rather dull and monotonous, with nice hills on the horizon. Weather follows Icelandic standard, it is constantly drizzling with occassional rains and few seconds long sun shows. We decided to press on a bit and joined two segments of the route, finishing Laugavegur in Volcano Huts site.

3 Sep 2023 -
Initial part of the Laugavegur trail, from Landmannalaugar over Höskuldsskáli and Álftavatn to Hvanngil chalet. We'd been warned about blizzard, which actually came. In strong winds and frequent rains we made it to the highest point of the trail, where we had spent night in a tent. The morning greeted us with couple inches of snow. The first two days had been through so-called "rainbow mountains" with beautiful views, strong winds, weather changing every few seconds. After we landed in Hvanngil chalet, we were pretty happy to accept the shelter.

Trip to Iceland to travel famous Laugavegur trail. We arrived to Keflavik airport, about 50 kilometers from the country capital, Reykjavik. As we arrived after midnight and failed to reach the camp we have booked, we had to spend the night on wastes close to the airport fence. Following day we moved to the capital, looked a bit around and in the next morning moved to the start of the trail, Landmanalaugar site.

First week of July we hiked over less famous portion of Mala Fatra mountains in Slovakia with Alice and her sister's dog Bella. It was a bit risky, but turned out to be great adventure and nice time. Five days of hike over summits and valleys, grassy meadows, deep forests and occassional rocks, sleeping in tent, drinking from quells and cooking on gas stove. Last few days we spent in camp Slunecne skaly (Sunny rocks) and tried local rocks with some climbing. Slovakia at its best.

There are a mountains following Polish-Czech border called Rychlebske hory. As

We planned a trip to Slovakia mountains, but as there was looming bad weather,
the final decision was to climb up Lysa hora (Bald mountain) in Beskydy range.
First stop was in climbing centre near parking lot. It was slippery, but nicely
empty area spanning between trees and offering many exercises. The mountain
itself is not very big, so we made it up in around two hours and slept in one
of the chalets at the top. Second day it was pretty rainy, but it just made us

There is famous organized hike over Jeseniky mountains called The sixty. The

try it out ourselves, a little more relaxed way over two days. It was pretty

It is always perfect to return to our younger days when we travelled the

Our last attempt years ago ended because of heavy rain. This time weather still
was not perfect, but drizzle stopped when we reached highest point of the rocks

15 Apr 2006 - 16 Apr 2006
Upon this winter there is the last chance to go skiing. The nearest location of
remaining snow is in Jeseniky, probably just on the ridge. We traversed whole
lenght of Hruby Jesenik, in whole about thirty kilometers. Show covered it all,
so it went well. In contrast there are some photos from the descent, they are
much more springy.

Sitting in the train, looking forward to next week that we are going to spend
in Jeseniky mountains. We took all our ski equipment and tried to wreck
ourselves there. We were mostly successful I had to say.

1 Feb 2006 - 5 Feb 2006
Last month I did some cross-country on ski, every time in deep snow,
making my own track. This time we wanted something else. Few days spent in
Highlands region, where heavy machinery is making ski highways every morning.

My friend, Martin, had invited me to visit his hometown called Vir. It lays in
hilly landscape in the doorstep of Highlands. Target of our way was interesting
observation tower made of steel, placed on the top of Horni les.

30 Dec 2005
New Year we are going to spend by dolce far niente. For a clear conscience we
went out to country, in this time naturally with cross-country ski. Pretty bad
weather, freezing, windy, no-one with brain in head would go out. As expected,
we met nobody, probably everyone spend this time by fire ...

17 Dec 2005 - 20 Dec 2005

snowing all the time.

15 Oct 2005 - 16 Oct 2005
Stoh is the one of most eastern hills in Mala Fatra. There is a long route from
the Kralovany town, it directs straight to the mountains and ascent about
kilometer high. That was a path I went with my brother. Some pictures from
autumn mountains.

17 Sep 2005 - 18 Sep 2005
Weekend on Slovak mountains, this time it is Lower Tatras (Nizke Tatry). As
planned we started on Friday, going to spend there as much time as possible.
Saturday found us in camp near the mountains, weather was rainy and unpleasant.
Me and Alice tried to reach Raztocka Hola, others rather spend some time in
caves. The other day, Sunday, however showed nicer face and allowed us to
ascend two highest hills here, Dumbier (2043m) and Chopok (2023m).

In Italy you can find a lot of great things, for example the mountains and
ice-cream, which is there called gellato. We tried both during our one week
trip around Northern Dolomits.

One class of Brno's Technical university is called 'Alpenwander', the german
word that stands for 'Hike on Alps'. My girl-friend is just studying there,
so we can take part. In fact, everybody is invited, who like hiking. This time
was not typical June weather ...

Unhappily one of our team had an accident, so we can watch rescue helicopter in

26 Mar 2005 - 28 Mar 2005
Three days skiing and snowboarding in Ramzova, village located in Jeseniky
mountains. Great weather gives us deal of snow. Because I learn snowboard
time from time, around one day each year, I am pretty dangerous one on ski
slope. Dangerous mostly to myself.

19 Feb 2005
After successful skiing on Hochkar last month we spend another day there, along
with more pals. Brave Roman surprised all with his ability to drive all slopes,
although it was his first attempt to control ski. Good job.

29 Jan 2005 - 30 Jan 2005
In the distance of sixty kilometers western of Brno there is some hills,
altogether called Highlands (Vysocina). Because of direct lines of train and
regular considerable amount of snow it stands for ideal place for cross-country
skiing. Centre of area is New Town (Nove mesto), where we found accomodation.
As many people from Brno has similar opinion about suitability of place,
typical routes around New Town was crowded. We have no other choice than create
our own hill-to-hill path. It is beautiful to go as first in deep snow ...

Skiing in Austria is much more pleasant than in our country. It is a bit
more expensive, though you don' need to wait for skilift and there is much
more space all around.

9 Oct 2004 - 10 Oct 2004
Last year we were hiking on the mountains called Small Fatra and found it very
right for that. So we tried to repeat the success, however this time it was
very different. Instead of sparkling snow and bright sunshine we went in rain
under dark clouds. Another face of mountains, also good to see it.

What I do not like very much is walrusing around the beach. So
I persuaded Alice to make short trip to mountains towered above Makarska
town. I was nearly one and half kilometer in vertical distance, hot sun
above head. Mind you, the beer after return we loved.

Extended weekend (three days) spent in Western Tatras. With big effort reached

ourselves on Ziarska cottage.
