This vacation we decided to spend on Corsica, small, but moutaineous island in Mediterranean sea. Here is the arrival onto Corsica's biggest port named Bastia, some sea fun and then move in moutains through pass called Scala di Santa Regina = A stairway of the queen.
Ship from Livorno to BastiaOn the sea we spent four hours, part of it on the top floor, then the strong wind drove us down in the ship restaurant. In almost empty room we slept, tired from day and night travel over Europe. The beach near BastiaSwimming on the beach helped us awake after long journey. Sun made sand very hot, so we were bathing most of the time. Corsica does not have too wide coast, so you can easily see wall of mountain directly from water. One of many Bastia portsThis old town got its name from middleage ramparts and towers, it is exactly what word Bastia means in italian. Second biggest town (about 40 thousands of inhabitants) on Corsica and the most important port here. Lozzi - town in mountainsLater that afternoon we moved inside the mountains. There are two parts of them, northern made of granite, higher and sharper, southern made of calcite, covered with grass and woods. Lozzi is in center of nothern part, just under the Monte Cinto (2700m), highest summit of the island. Paglia Orba and early stages|Corsica
